The House of Ruins which resides by the Kurzeme seaside in the town of Pāvilosta represents a dialogue between architecture and nature. It is a successful example of regional architecture in which memories of the past are embodied by ruins and are an integral part of the future tale of a new building. The building not only received the award for Best Architectural site of 2005 being nominated in the new single family home category, but also won recognition for the originality of its idea. The concept is unique because of its asceticism. The soulfulness that oozes from the building gives the house its added architectural value. At the same time, it is a font of information for the future about the past offering up a source of learning in which the architect is like a mediator on the level of thought.
